| Our team arrived in Freetown about 6:00 on Saturday, November 1, 2003. There were six of us in all, and we had our regular equipment with us. We had hoped to get out earlier and take advantage of a little light, but it was pitch dark by the time we got out there. We used a map to find the entrance to the state park, but the parking was closed and we didn’t feel like getting towed. Most of the trip ended up being like this, a lot of walking and driving with no where to park and no way to find what we were looking for. Both cemeteries on High Street were impossible to find, so we concentrated on the area of the park near the reservation. The paths through the forest were flooded out. We walked around the pools, but as we went deeper into the woods we found it difficult to stay on or near the path and stop from getting soaked in mud. Two of the group felt uneasy because we were on the reservations land and the walking was getting harder. We decided instead to canvas the area around the one open parking lot. After walking the perimeter and taking readings, we decided to try and find someplace else. We drove on Bell Rock road, an area know for having bodies dumped there, and about half a mile down the road we saw why. The area dropped off into another world, far from even the emptiness of the forest. We almost destroyed our cars and decided it would be best to come back some time when we could spend more time investigating in the light. Although it was dark and intimidating and easy to see how the area could gain a reputation, we didn’t sense anything unusual or have any type of readings on our machines. Jenna’s tape recorder malfunctioned, buzzing and clicking when she tried to record and then going normal after we left. On reviewing my tapes, you can hear someone clearly say, “Shhhh” to me, although the groups voices are in the background and the voice is in the foreground. We were several feet away from the tape, and there seems to be some other words being spoken that are not ours, but the clarity of the tape makes the finding inconclusive. All in all, it was an interesting case. There is activity there. The longer I leave information up on my site, the more I hear from people who have experienced something. The unfortunate aspect of the area, and in investigating it, is there are so many places and the area is wooded and several miles long, that it is difficult to find an area and concentrate on it. The trip was investigating personified. Sometimes you sit and wait and wait and wait… |

| I have been told about another location in the forest from someone who saw the story on my site. It is know as The Ledge, which is an old quarry in the northwest section of the forest. About six years ago he and two other men were fishing when they noticed movement on the ledge above them. About six or seven men were hiding behind the bushes as they made there way down the ledge. They were “spooked” by the fact they could not make the figures out clearly and jumped in there truck and drove to the road nearby, but there was no car and no way for anyone to get near the area. When they returned moments later to the spot they had been fishing, the figure were gone although they would have had to pass the men and could not have made it down the ledge in time enough to hide. Another person who contacted me had heard about the hauntings at Crystal Springs from people who used to work there. The school acts as a CSS school and residential institution surrounded by woods. There seems to be hauntings inside the institution, as well as on the grounds nearby. A nurse once saw a young man walk through a wall in the hospital. To get through areas you have to be buzzed in because of security risks, but on this night he just passed through the walls. Another night the same young man was seen outside leaning against a pole. The spirit might be that of a man who died in the area known as the “Tree Houses.” He supposedly died there a few years ago and is often seen wearing a brown bomber jacket with sandy “mullet-style” hair. There is a gravestone back there with the name “Evens” on it, but it is unclear if this is the man in the jacket or someone else or even if there is anyone buried there. The spirit of a little boy and a old lady are also seen in hospital, often as a ball of light. There has been reports of muffled voices. The person who reported this to me said she believed the story because it was told by someone she trusted and then backed up by other people who had similar experiences. |
