Jessica is recently divorced with two young girls, age three and seven.  She lives in Woburn, Massachusetts, but her problems first began in Cambridge.  Shortly after her second child was born, before her divorce, strange things began to happen, centered mainly on her oldest daughter, Julie.  A religious statue out of reach of her daughter was found turned around.  It would be turned the right way only to be moved again.  A strange red substance smeared down her bathroom wall.  At first she thought it was paint from the wall or a plastic flower arrangement, but neither seemed to be dripping.  There was a feeling of not being alone or of being watched coming from the room where the statue was moved, and Julie started to talk about an invisible friend named Michelle.  One several occasions Michelle would come on the ouija board when it was used and tell Jessica things that only someone in the house would know.

Jessica eventually moved to Woburn, but the feeling of not being alone didn't go away.  Whether it was something new or something that had followed the family, the occurrences increased and got more intense.  Giggling could be heard upstairs when the girls were not up there.  Electrical toys in one room downstairs had a habit of turning on or falling out of their boxes.  Lights in the kitchen sometimes turn on or off by themselves, and the one above the sink burns out quickly.  Once Jenna was watching Gina, my youngest niece, when one of the lights in the kitchen came on by itself.  Gina pointed and said, "light."  Jenna, trying to remain calm, tried to call my sister, but the phone was dead.  She tried her cell phone and another extension of the house's phone for ten minutes before she was able to get a dial tone. I was sleeping in the guest room one night when I felt someone sleeping right next to me, pressing hard against my leg and then feeling the same thing on my side.

Julie started to talk about another friend, Mr. Moustache, who she described as a nice man with a thick black moustache.

Both Jessica and her mother have seen things too. Jessica has seen a person crouching behind the garbage can in her kitchen.  Jessica's mother has seen a figure move across the room, or standing at the entryway to the dining room and watching her.  She described the figure as over six feet and more like a mist.  It watched them for about thirty seconds, and then glided into the kitchen.  Jenna has also seen the figure, although she described it as all white.  Other people have reported seeing things move out of the corner of their eye or had strange feelings, especially in the kitchen, the guest bedroom, and the living room where the toys are kept.  I often hear coughing coming from upstairs when I am in the living room.

I've tried to investigate these things several times.  Originally I had though it was more of a poltergeist type haunting.  There were young girls involved, and to say there was negative energy in the house during the hardest times of the marriage is an understatement.  Things intensified after the husband had moved out and then moved back in, and there was always a fight about happen.  Julie is also a very sensitive little girl and she felt everything that was going on.  The physical appearance of something made me reconsider this, and then I became convinced it was something else when I did a bit more digging.

Matt and I conducted an investigation one night when the family was away.  Matt has an infrared camera and took pictures but nothing came out.  We searched all the rooms and tried to make contact several different ways.  I tried to tape record some of the occurrences, but my recorder, with two new sets of batteries put in, refused to record without shutting off.  The same with my video camera.  The only time we were able to make solid contact was when we called out the spirit from the living room.  We heard footsteps walk the length of the upstairs hall and down the stairs and then a creak to about a yard of where we were sitting.  We didn't see anything.

One night I was able to make contact with the spirit of a little boy who said he was trapped in the attic, the entrance of which is in the guest room, by a man with a moustache.  He said he would escape sometimes and go into the girls’ rooms or downstairs and play with their toys.  I asked if I could help him, but he said no.

More insight came from the former owner of the house who still lives next door.  She said she and her family would often see things they could not explain.  The house, and the neighborhood, have a strange history.  Once small cottages, the houses have been expanded and built upon.  There is an unusual amount of divorce and disease.  The people who lived in the house before Jessica had also seen and heard strange things.  She said her friend who had lived there before, divorced from her husband of course, had been having a conversation with her daughter and watched as a couple made there way down the stairs and walked through the living room into the kitchen, arguing the whole time.  When they went to investigate, the couple had disappeared.  Another person had a daughter who started talking to an imaginary friend right after they moved in.  The mother once watched as the daughter fell down the stairs only to be lifted off the ground and carried to safety at the bottom of the stairs.

Recently, the activity has continued. Upstairs doors still open and close by themselves.  There is still heavy footsteps that walk around the upstairs hall and other loud noises, which Jenna says reminders her of, "a stack of magazines dropping on the floor.  I was babysitting when I heard my younger niece now three, crying.  When I went upstairs to see what was wrong, she said, "There's someone in the room."  The most recent sign of something wrong is an odd odor, like old garbage, coming and going at the entrance of the kitchen from the living room.
