| Vale End Cemetery in Wilton, New Hampshire, continues to be one of the most intriguing haunted locations in New England. As the years go by, the legend of what may lurk there continues to grow, with each new story adding to the mystic of the graveyard. We first heard about it as paranormal websites began removing their directions to it from their pages because of physical attacks there and posted our report at www.massacrossroads.com/vale. While we have not heard of any more physical attacks there, we have continued to get reports of activity.
There seem to be at least four types of spirits that walk the rows in Wilton. The first is Mary Ritter, the woman commonly known as the Blue Lady. The next seems to be the father of the young bride exhumed after her father’s death and moved. We have also now heard of a young girl in the cemetery talked about in the diary below, although her story sounds a bit like the daughter of the man we just mentioned and there might be confusion and a mix of the two stories. The last, of course, is the inhuman spirits that are responsible for the attacks on investigators there. In the diary they are referred to as Grover, a name coined by Hollow Hill, one of the oldest website about the paranormal. There seems to be conflicting reports about these spirits. In the diary below it is referred to as a man that haunts the “Cold Corner”, but we have also heard there are several of these creatures and that they are most likely not human. We were recently contacted by a group of teenagers from some of the nearby towns that investigate there. We’ve looked at the pictures, did a bit of follow-up with them and examined the pictures they posted. We do not believe all of the pictures show spirits, but we feel after communicating with them that none of them are doctored and we let them stand for your feedback. We have kept the diary intact for the most part. We have taken the liberty of editing it for space. We do not endorse some of the methods used by this team or all of their conclusions, but we’ve posted this material in the spirit of sharing resources and spurring debate. THE DIARY 5/17/04 Recently myself, Josh, Grimes, Damon, and Devin went to a cemetery in New Hampshire, which is supposed to be one of the most, if not the most haunted in New England. Before going there I didn't believe in the paranormal...but after the countless pictures we took and video showing orbs, my ideas have changed. The night we went there a lot of action was happening all over the cemetery. I decided to wander off on my own a little down the path. After taking a few pictures I start to feel a little uneasy and decide to head back to the group. As I walked back I started hearing footsteps following me. At this point there was no one else around me, so I decide to walk a little faster... the footsteps still following, I could hear them hitting the tar behind me and the grass to my left. This also happened a second time as I walked around with a friend. Both of us heard the footsteps. As we were there we met some kids from Merrimack and got a picture with some orbs. http://img68.photobucket.com/albums/v206/powers3777/Picture_409.jpg This picture was taken when Grimes called out to the man that haunts the "cold corner". This spot is 10 degrees colder than everywhere else in the cemetery. This man, called the Grover haunts this specific area, and is the meanest of them all. http://img68.photobucket.com/albums/v206/powers3777/Picture_404.jpg This next one is when Grimes decides to say exactly what you shouldn't, "come out and play.” Seconds later Grimes hears voices over his left shoulder saying, "no, no.” All the sudden we hear the LOCKED door of the shed open and slam shut quickly. I immediately take the shot. He did manage to get an orb on camera that came up close and disappeared. But the oddest part was when he went to the car to get out the new fully charged battery to replace the dying one. He put the new battery in and we decide to go down to the little girl, Sarah Webber's, grave. This little girl was burned to death in a fire, and she wanders around the cemetery trying to find her headstone because at one point in time it was moved. As we get to the headstone Josh takes a close up picture of it with the video camera. About 5 seconds later the camera's battery totally drains out. 1 minute earlier that battery was fully charged. What we didn't do which I was hoping to was see the little girl. If you walk out a few feet past her headstone into the woods and look up at the big tree you'll see an outline of a little girl sitting on a branch, then she quickly disappears. This has been reported several times, and Josh has seen it before in the 5 years that he's been going to this cemetery. 6/5/04 The three of us went down to the cold corner, where the Grover is. Our first walk down ended up with nothing spectacular; really no orbs showed up. We went up and towards the back left corner to see Sara Webber, the little girl who burned to death in a fire. Being the three fearless investigators that we are, we decided to check out the tree that Sara is normally seen in. Most video camera's batteries die before getting close enough to get footage of the tree, but the digital camera we had held up fine. We took one picture up at the tree and for nothing. I take another shot... As we head there we stop and listen, to our left in the woods we can hear distinct footsteps, little voices, and screams. We start to feel things off to our left, almost like a pressure pushing on you... I snap a picture, and I jump back from what I see. A large ectoplasm right in front of my face clearly lights up from the flash of the camera. http://img68.photobucket.com/albums/v206/powers3777/IMG_0900.jpg Randomly I take more pictures. At first nothing shows up, then I get more ectoplasm. http://img68.photobucket.com/albums/v206/powers3777/IMG_0886.jpg We start heading back to the car and decide the three of us will go back to my favorite spot, The Cold Corner. We start heading down to the corner and as we get closer it starts to get colder and colder. We walk right up to the shed and start taking pictures. Slowly but surely we walk away from the Cold Corner and back to the car. During the night Josh and two of his friends were just finishing up their search at Vale End Cemetery. They all got into their car and started driving down to the exit. Just before they reached the exit, fierce pounding suddenly occurred on the back window. Super fast hitting. They quickly sped off down the road and slowly calmed down. They get out of the car to see what happened and all they can see are handprints all over the back window. Now we believe that these were the acts of the Grover. He's supposed to be a very mean spirit who tries to keep visitors out. I've been told he's seen as a reddish colored orb. I actually have a picture that could possibly prove to be him. In the picture I took I do believe some of these orbs are in fact dust, but also feel that a majority are real spirits. This specific night Josh was really getting bad feelings about being there, like the spirits were angry. So Josh and the friend got into their jeep and started it up. Suddenly the jeep is violently shaken left and right and the sounds of chains are heard smashing against the side of the jeep. This last story is of someone actually being physically touched and harmed. One of the kids fell down but the other 2 rushed to the car and locked the doors, not realizing their friend wasn't with them. After a few seconds of regaining their breaths the 2 friends headed back out to find their buddy. They find him laying on his back not breathing, his face practically blue. The friends shake the kid and he lets out a cold breath of air. The kid said he felt like something was standing on him, putting pressure on his chest so he wasn't able to breathe. The 2 friends lift up his shirt and find scratch markings all over his chest. |
